Psoriasis is a disorder that leads to the development of red, flaky patches on a person’s skin. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder that is recurring in nature and affects the skin. There is no exact cure for psoriasis but there are several remedies and treatments that can help patients.

Psoriasis occurs when the skin cells are produced in a person’s body in two to six days instead of 21 to 28 days. This leads to dryness in the skin of the patient. When psoriasis occurs in the scalp of a person, it is called scalp psoriasis. Scalp psoriasis also leads to red and scaly patches on the skin of the scalp.

Scalp psoriasis can either appear on one part of the scalp or there can be several patches visible on the scalp skin. Scalp psoriasis can affect the entire scalp and go as far as affecting the forehead, back of the neck, and ear of the patient. Scalp psoriasis is not a contagious disorder. There are higher chances of you developing scalp psoriasis, if psoriasis is a disorder that runs in your family.

Psoriasis Remedies

There are various treatments for psoriasis. The physician in charge can guide the patient in the right way. The treatments and remedies prescribed will depend upon the severity of the skin disorder and on how much skin on the body has been affected.

In cases of patients whose skin is only 10 percent affected by psoriasis, topical creams and lotions seem to be very effective. An occasional steroid injection can also be helpful. Topical creams will not help patients who are moderately affected. For them, systemic medications and ultraviolet light treatments need to be used. Internal medication should not be considered as one of the remedies since it can be risky.

In extreme cases, when the patient starts to suffer from psoriatic arthritis, systemic medications are used as treatments. This is done so that the joint destruction does not progress.

Apart from this, there are various home remedies that can be used as treatments for this skin disorder. One of these remedies includes the intake of dietary supplements. This can help ease the symptoms from inside.

Other treatments include using a humidifier to keep the air in the home or office moist. Using products labeled for sensitive skin falls under good remedies for psoriasis. They will not contain dyes and perfumes that hinder with psoriasis treatments.

There are several other remedies for psoriasis. One of these treatments is keeping check on the diet of the patient. More remedies for psoriasis include applying olive oil on the affected parts to lock in the nutrients and moisture.
