Poison ivy is a plant that causes rash when it comes in contact with the skin. The rash on the skin can be irritating and temporary in nature. Skin rash occurs due to the oil present in this plant, called urushiol. Itchiness and blister on the skin are caused when this oil touches the skin. This type of allergic contact is referred to as dermatitis.

  • Soap and water: On coming in contact with poison ivy, immediately wash your body part with water and soap. It is one of the easiest home remedies to prevent further infection. Use more and more water for washing the affected part.
  • Cool compress: One of the simplest home remedies for rash caused due to poison ivy is a cool compress. Wet a cloth and apply it over the affected area. It reduces itchiness caused due to skin rash. 
  • Banana peel: Rubbing the inside part of banana peel on the affected area is one of the helpful home remedies for poison ivy. It provides a temporary relief until you find a better solution for your problem.
  • Aloe vera: Aloe vera is one of the useful home remedies for poison ivy. It is effective in the treatment of skin rash also. It has anti-inflammatory properties beneficial in fighting against the infection. Apply aloe vera sap on the affected area, let it dry and then wash it off with water. Applying it after every two hours is recommended.
  • Baking soda: Baking soda can be used for poison ivy home remedies. Prepare a paste from baking soda and water. Application of this paste on the affected area is one of the useful home remedies. Reapplication of this paste after every two hours is a helpful treatment for skin rash caused due to poison ivy. 
  • Vinegar: Home remedies for skin rash caused by poison ivy include application of vinegar. Application of vinegar using a cotton swab and rubbing it over the affected skin is recommended. Afterwards, rinse the affected area to get rid of skin rash. Before application, wash the area with water and soap.
