Gardening Boosts Men’s Sex Drive

Just 30 minutes a day, five days a week, can revive a man’s flagging sex drive, say scientists. A new study done by researchers at the Medical University of Vienna says that gardening as well as other forms of moderate exercise, including dancing, cycling and jogging, can act as “natural” Viagra and reduce the risk of impotence.

The study, which involved 674 men between the ages of 45 and 60 found that burning only 1,000 calories a week through exercise improved a man’s performance in the bedroom by reducing the risk of impotence by 38 percent. The calories burned are the equivalent of gardening for 30 to 45 minutes, cycling four miles in 15 minutes, jogging one and a half miles, or dancing for 30 minutes. Men who exercised even more and burned 4,000 calories a week by exercising slashed their risk of impotence by over 50 percent.

“Erectile function can be maintained even by low, regular physical activity,” wrote the researchers. “Energy expenditure of as little as 1,000 kilocalories a week reduces the risk.

“Doctors should use these findings to encourage their patients to do more physical training and adopt a healthier lifestyle.”
