Premenopause: Decade of Transition

Premenopause may cover 10 years before menopause. It is marked by fluctuations in hormones, irregular ovulations, weight gain, loss of libido, mood swings, and sleep disturbances.

These problems can be easily treated with hormones if you work with a doctor who knows what they are doing, knows you, and cares about you.

I have seen hundreds of women in this stage of life going from doctor to doctor and from test to test without getting help.

They get sicker and sicker, taking more and more drugs, with no light at the end of the tunnel.

It is sad and criminal to see this happen. They become roadkill, run over by a misguided healthcare system.

However, if they are lucky enough to find a competent, caring practitioner they will regain their lives after being placed on a proper balance of bioidentical estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, adrenal support, thyroid along with a change of diet, increased exercise, sleep, supplements, and stress management.

Postmenopause is the rest of our lives, but to categorize it into a single segment is to oversimplify and do women a big disservice.

Life is a continuum, and changes occur within each stage. Women get depressed because they are told they are old, and the aches, pains, weight gain, and loss of youth are just the way things are.

Women are told to age gracefully. That is pure hypocrisy.

It is why so many get depressed and wind up with anxiety attacks and in and out of hospitals with unnecessary tests, looking for medical problems that maybe will make them feel less depressed about getting old.

Too few women are placed on bioidentical hormones for the rest of their lives.

Too few are taking thyroid, adrenal, and other hormone support.

The ones who do take hormones look younger and vibrant, and depression is not part of their vocabulary.

They are the ones who still enjoy sex. They maintain their weight and exercise regularly. They sleep soundly for seven to eight hours a night, have successful relationships, and are happy in their lives.

That is what could be the rest of your life.
