Should I Get Pneumonia Vaccines?

By    |   Thursday, 05 Feb 2015 09:40 AM

Question: My doctor is recommending I go in for the pneumonia vaccines (I’m 63). But is this really necessary? I’m pretty healthy.

Dr. Hibberd’s answer:

Yes, yes, and yes. The Pneumovax vaccines are very effective in preventing the most common causes of pneumococcal pneumonia.

They are designed for healthy people, as well for those with illnesses caused by the most common bacterial pneumonia we see.

Despite the fact that it does not protect against all pneumonia diseases we encounter, it is a very important vaccine to be sure to get.
