Can Down Syndrome and Depression Co-Exist?

Question: Can a 35-year-old woman with Down syndrome and a mental age of 3 years also have depression or bipolar disorder?

Yes. Unfortunately, Down syndrome does not offer protection from depression or from bipolar disorder.
 
All of these conditions are possible and can co-exist in a 35-year-old Down syndrome patient.
