Boost Your Energy: Top Doc Reveals How to Feel Great Every Day

Friday, 30 Aug 2013 08:24 AM

Are you one of the 31 percent of adults suffering from ongoing fatigue? Do you need coffee or energy drinks to get through the day? Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, author of “The Fatigue and Fibromyalgia Solution,” says it doesn’t have to be this way.

When patients come to Dr. Teitelbaum complaining of fatigue, the first thing he advises them is to clean up their diets, he tells Newsmax Health. That means eliminating excess sugar and getting plenty of water and — you may be surprised to hear this — enough salt.

“People with fatigue often need more salt, not less,” he says.

He tells patients to follow a protocol he refers to as SHINE — sleep, hormones, immunity, nutrition, and exercise. This helps people improve their quality of life and feel better, he says.
The treatment calls for optimal sleep, addressing hormonal deficiencies, detecting and treating underlying infections, achieving proper nutritional balance, and exercising outdoors.

“These simple things … will leave most people feeling dramatically better,” he says.

Sleep. To make time for an optimal eight hours of sleep a night, eliminate the activities in your life that you dislike, he advises. If insomnia is an issue, try an herbal remedy.
Hormones.  Blood tests for hormone levels are not reliable, he says, so he considers patients’ symptoms. “If you’re tired, achy, [experience] weight gain, [or are] cold-intolerant, you need thyroid hormone. If you get irritable when hungry and the fangs come out, you need some adrenal support.”
Infections. “For infections and immunity, if you have chronic sinusitis, spastic colon, or irritable bowel, you want to treat that candida [yeast] overgrowth by taking a good probiotic and getting rid of the excess sugar,” he says.
Nutrition. Dr. Teitelbaum recommends taking a vitamin powder, a 5-gram scoop of the energy supplement ribose, and a fish oil pill daily. “That’s my morning recipe for nutritional support and [it] leaves most people feeling outstanding.”
Exercise. “Go outside for a walk in the sunshine each day — you’ll be amazed at how much better it will have you feeling.”
