Are Supplements Good for My Thyroid?

By Peter Hibberd, M.D.   |   Wednesday, 01 May 2013 10:08 AM

Question: Are there any treatments or supplements to reduce calcification of the thyroid?

Dr. Hibberd’s answer:
No. There are no treatments or supplements that reduce calcifications in the thyroid. Many times goiters are treated by suppressive thyroid supplementation, but this usually has no effect on calcifications of the thyroid.
Are these calcifications evidence of cystic disease, or are they ominous precursors of a thyroid cancer? Be sure you see your doctor for clarification on this. If there are any questions, fine needle aspiration or biopsy may be advised.
