Question: Is there anything short of surgery to dissolve fat tumors? I am a 66-year-old woman and have many fat tumors in my abdominal area.
Dr. Hibberd's Answer:
I'm afraid that lipomas (known as benign fatty tumors) do not regress with medicine. They are soft, well-defined, and are not normally tender.
Lipomas are regarded as cosmetic nuisances, yet must be removed surgically if they become a problem. They are best removed when they are small since larger lipomas may create a cosmetic challenge when removed. Lipomas rarely undergo malignant transformation.
