Report: ‘Shock-Jock’ Imus May be Fired — Again

Wednesday, 02 Feb 2011 11:54 AM

Don Imus, the longtime “shock-jock” radio personality who successfully made the jump to cable-TV stardom, could be out the door at financial cable channel Fox Business.

Imus was picked up by Fox Business after being dropped by employer MSBNC and kicked off CBS radio following a scandal over on-air comments about the Rutgers women’s basketball team. Imus sued CBS for $40 million over wrongful termination and later settled.

73870700.jpgHe joined Fox Business in 2008 and revived his show, “Imus in the Morning.” Now, according to U.S. News & World Report, Fox is considering ending the show.

According to Paul Bedard, the Washington Whispers columnist for U.S. News, Imus was hired to bring the then-new cable station headlines and to attract viewers, which Bedard characterized as “mission accomplished.”

“Whispers hears that the network considers his mission accomplished and is considering putting a business show into his early morning time slot,” Bedard writes.

Fox executives declined to confirm the rumor, noting that his contract still has time before ending, reported the news site.

MSNBC host Keith Olbermann stepped down from his high-profile “Countdown” show Jan. 21 with virtually no explanation.

The liberal commentator was suspended without pay for two days in November for making donations to Democratic candidates, in violation of NBC policy.
