Google Says Investigating Reports of E-Mail Service Disruption

Jan. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Google Inc. is investigating reports of online service disruptions with Gmail.

The world’s biggest search provider said it would provide more information on the Internet e-mail service soon, according to a post on its website today. Multiple Twitter Inc. users sent posts reporting that their Gmail accounts weren’t working.

Ensuring the availability of the e-mail feature is critical for Mountain View, California-based Google, which targets users with Web advertising.

The disruption comes a month after rival Yahoo! Inc. had issues with its e-mail service that eventually led Chief Executive Officer Marissa Mayer to apologize to users. Mayer described the issues as a “major outage.”
