Pentagon Wounded Warrior Care Official Forced Out

Sunday, 25 Apr 2010 03:23 PM

A Pentagon official in charge of the government's wounded warrior program says he has been forced to resign.

The head of the wounded warrior care office, Noel Koch, says he was asked to resign by the undersecretary of defense for personnel, Clifford Stanley.

Koch calls the decision unjust and says he resigned late last week under duress after Stanley said he had no confidence in him.

The Pentagon had no comment.

The military is struggling with how best to care for troops wounded in combat.

Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have physically, mentally and emotionally battered the military. Thousands of troops have come home with severe injuries, and the number of suicides and incidents of post-traumatic stress disorders have spiked.
