Microsoft's Nadella Makes Management Changes Ahead of Conference

Monday, 31 Mar 2014 12:07 PM

Microsoft Corp. Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella named three top executives to lead some of the company’s businesses, adding to a series of management moves at the world’s largest software maker.

In an e-mail to employees today, Nadella said he had appointed new leaders for the company’s cloud and enterprise organization, the Xbox business and the devices group. The changes follow an executive reshuffle earlier this month when the CEO appointed a chief strategy officer and disclosed the exits of several top executives. Nadella became CEO in February, replacing Steve Ballmer.

The appointments show “how we’re continuing to evolve and tune our organization for maximum focus and impact,” Nadella wrote in the e-mail.

The new executive vice presidents include Scott Guthrie, who will lead the cloud and enterprise group after being the acting head of the unit for the past few months. Former Nokia Oyj CEO Stephen Elop will join as executive vice president of the devices group when Microsoft’s acquisition of the Nokia handset unit closes by the end of April and Phil Spencer is taking on a role leading the Xbox business.

Nadella made the announcements ahead of a Microsoft developer conference this week in San Francisco called Build. Last week, Nadella made his first public appearance since taking on his CEO job when he unveiled Microsoft Office software for Apple Inc.’s iPad. At the event, the CEO said he will “hold nothing back” to get the Redmond, Washington-based company’s programs across all devices, in a clear departure from the software maker’s longtime focus on its Windows operating system.
