Carrier Corp. has released a timeline for eliminating 632 jobs at the air conditioner maker’s Indianapolis factory — work that will be outsourced to Mexico despite appeals from President Donald Trump.

A big batch of the job cuts will come in the days before Christmas.

Trump campaigned hard on keeping jobs in the United States and frequently targeted Carrier for planning to ship jobs overseas as he appealed to blue-collar workers in the Midwest, Reuters reported.

Company officials said 338 jobs would be cut by July 20, the Associated Press reported. Another 290 will be out of work by Dec. 22.

“This action follows a thorough evaluation of our manufacturing operations and is intended to address the challenges the business faces in a rapidly changing industry,” Carrier Senior Human Resources Manager for Indianapolis Operations Steven Morris wrote in a letter sent to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development on Friday.

Morris’ letter is dated May 19, and the state posted it online Monday morning.

The affected positions were never included in the deal orchestrated by Trump in late November, Inside Indiana Business reported.

Most of the affected employees are union workers who are represented by United Steelworkers Local 1999. United Steelworkers Local 1999 Vice President Robert James says it’s “cold” to put people out of work just days before Christmas.

Trump made the plight of 1,400 Carrier workers a major campaign theme.

Under pressure from Trump, Carrier announced last November that it would keep some operations in Indianapolis, sparing about 800 workers.

The company is also closing a sister plant in Huntington.
