Sean Connery is known not just by name and by sight, but by sound. The actor with the unmistakable Scottish brogue began his acting career in 1954, skyrocketed to worldwide fame in 1962 with his portrayal of James Bond in “Dr. No,” and has played a part in nearly every film genre from drama to sci-fi in his decades-long career.

His achievements haven’t gone unnoticed. Over the years Connery has amassed many awards and accolades for his savoir faire on the silver screen and his acting credentials are nothing to sneeze at.

Here are some of the awards and highlights of his storied career.
  • 1965, 1966: He won a Laurel Award for his action performance in “Goldfinger” and “Thunderball,” respectively.
  • 1986, 1989: Connery won Best International Actor from Jupiter Award for “The Name of the Rose” and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” respectively.
  • 1988: Connery won an Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in “The Untouchables.”

  • 1988: Connery also won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, again for “The Untouchables.”
  • 1988: BAFTA awarded Connery with a Best Actor award for his performance in “The Name of the Rose.”
  • 1992: The American Cinematheque Award was presented to Connery as an artist making a significant contribution to the art of film.
  • 1992: Connery received the Rudolph Valentino Award in honor of reaching the pinnacle of acting success.
  • 1995: The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films awarded Connery their Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • 1996: Connery won the Cecil B. DeMille Award, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for his outstanding contribution to the entertainment industry.
  • 1997: Connery was awarded a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Supporting Actor in an action/adventure for his part in “The Rock.” He also shared an MTV Movie Award with Nicolas Cage for best on-screen duo.
  • 1998: The British Academy for Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awarded Connery with the British Academy Fellowship, the highest award for achievement in world cinema.
  • 1999: Connery won the Audience Award for Best Actor from the European Film Awards for “Entrapment.”
  • 2006: Another Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Connery from the American Film Institute.
