Who Are 'Quartet of Truth' in the Same-Sex Marriage Debate?

By    |   Tuesday, 07 Jul 2015 08:43 PM

Nicknamed the "Quartet of Truth" by LifeSiteNews.com, four adult children of same-sex parents joined the legal and cultural debate over marriage equality in 2015 as opponents of same-sex unions.

The four submitted amicus curiae, or "friend of the court," briefs with the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, each describing the difficulties of growing up in a household with two parents of the same sex.

Dubbed "poster children" for the anti-gay marriage movement by the liberal website Think Progress, all four urged the judges to uphold bans on same-sex marriage being challenged in three conservative southern states: Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

They argued that research shows children raised by traditional, male-female married couples grow up with fewer emotional problems and fare better as adults. Their position is that society's interest in marriage is ultimately to promote the well-being of children, not the lifestyle preferences of parents.

Here are the four adult children referred to as the “Quartet of Truth.”

Dawn Stefanowicz
A native of Toronto, Canada, Stefanowicz grew up with her homosexual father and his same-sex partners. A speaker and author, she has testified against legalizing same-sex marriages before state and national legislatures in Australia, the United States and her native Canada.

Robert Oscar Lopez
Lopez was born in 1971 to a Puerto Rican mother and Filipino father, both psychiatrists by profession. After the marriage disintegrated, he was raised by his mother and her same-sex partner, while his father remained absent from his life. He writes at a blog called English Manif.

Brittany Newmark Klein
Klein wrote in her amicus brief that she "grew up with a parent and her partner in an atmosphere in which gay ideology was used as a tool of repression, retribution and abuse," and that she "lived with gay abuse for years." Klein and fellow "Quartet" member Lopez are co-writing a book on same-sex marriage and children.

Katy Faust
Faust is a child of divorce who was raised by her mother and her mother's same-sex partner beginning at age 10. Faust serves on the Academic Council of the International Children's Rights Institute, and writes about same-sex marriage and its effect on children at a blog with the self-deprecating title of "Ask the Bigot."
