Rev. Rick Warren began his ministry in 1980 with a formula used by Baptist pastors. His small, intimate congregation first based in his home grew to an astounding 50,000 known as Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California.

Warren is a best-selling author of books like "The Purpose Driven Life," and a faith-based health program, "The Daniel Plan." Much of what Warren preaches is based on the principal of love, which he says is an essential emotion to base a Christian life upon.

Here are eight memorable Warren quotes on love.

1. In interview with The Christian Post, Warren spoke about "The Daniel Plan," and its focus on health. "Being reminded about the incredible power of God's love, and living as He intended, is the most powerful motivation to change [yourself for the better]."

2. "God is love. He didn't need us. But he wanted us."

3. After Warren lost his child, he learned love and compassion on a deeper level. "The death of my own son has made me more sensitive. It's made me more compassionate."

4. Love has to go beyond our comfort zone, Warren said when he spoke to The Christian Post about Muslims and Christian fear and hate. He said Christians need not hate those who have differing opinions or lifestyles. Instead, he advises compassion and puts emphasis that love is not linked to agreement. "Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone's lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don't have to compromise convictions to be compassionate."

5. Warren, said in his book, "The Purpose Driven Life," there is no time for love like the immediate. "The best use of life is love. The best expression of love is time. The best time to love is now."

6. How do we keep love in our life? Warren said in a sermon, "Life minus love equals zero."

7. As a reminder, Warren states in his book, "The Purpose Driven Life," the most important part of life involves the heart. "Love should be your top priority, primary objective, and greatest ambition. Love is not a good part of your life; it's the most important part. The Bible says, 'Let love be your greatest aim.'"

8. Warren also tell us in his book "The Purpose Driven Life," that "Knowing and loving God is our greatest privilege, and being known and loved is God's greatest pleasure."
