Oklahoma, with its wide-open prairies and mountain ranges, is known for its hunting. There are more than two dozen open seasons for hunters and a bevy of game animals in the state. A wave of new technology to enhance the hunting experience has made the sport even more exciting.

Online resources have made planning for a hunting trip more convenient, and smartphones can be used to enhance the field experience. Huntercourse.com touts smartphones as a tool to allow hunters to do everything from pinpointing optimal hunting times to tracking their location and logging observations.

Here are some of the online and mobile apps available to hunters in Oklahoma.

Online License

Hunters can purchase their licenses online, offering convenience for many hunters. This feature is available through the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s website. Lifetime and senior hunting licenses are not available online.

E-Check

The state has given hunters the ability to more efficiently check their animals by using an online app, named E-Check. According the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, all hunters who take a deer, elk or turkey must check in their harvest within 24 hours of leaving the hunt area. This feature can also be found at the department’s website.

iSonular Hunting & Fishing Times

This app provides updates on optimal times of the day for hunting and/or fishing anywhere around the globe. The information is provided by the U.S. Naval Observatory.

Primos Hunting Calls

These apps allow hunters to “speak the language” of each animal in order to attract them. There are more than 20 interactive calls, including turkey, elk, deer and waterfowl.

iHunt Journal

This item is essentially an electronic journal that allows hunters to track and record information relevant to their hunt. Updates on weather are available as well.
