With some of the largest ski mountains on the East Coast, New Hampshire has plenty of sporting activities throughout the winter. The "Granite State" also provides various attractions for your family vacation or staycation all year long.

Here are seven great places to visit in New Hampshire:

1. North Conway has been a favorite location for a staycation near the popular White Mountains. Swimming and picnicking are activities for locals and visitors on the sandy beaches of Echo Lake State Park. Families love canoeing, kayaking and inner tube play, along the Saco River. The White Mountain National Forest is within walking distance with beautiful mountains, cliffs and wildlife.

2. The Lakes Region has fishing, boating and swimming for staycation fun. Lakes include Winnipesaukee, the largest lake in New Hampshire, and Waukewan. But there are more than 270 lakes and ponds in the scenic area. Entertainment for kids and adults includes the public beaches, miniature golf, video arcades and water slides. There are also hidden coves within the islands along the lakeside towns when boating or touring.

3. Lakes also dot Hillsborough, another popular tourist area with stone bridges that date back to the 19th century. Trails and boardwalks provide for pleasant nature tours in the Caroline A. Fox Research and Demonstration Forest. Visitors enjoy the view of the Contoocook River while eating fine foods and baked items at local restaurants.

4. Hanover offers swimming and water activities on the Connecticut River along with the academic lifestyle of Dartmouth College. Hiking along the Appalachian Trail and golfing at the Hanover Country Club, which includes a kids' golf camp, are among the activities. Dining spots are plentiful for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

5. Swimming, surfing, boating, amusements, concerts and fireworks are regular events at Hampton Beach. Many of the evening music events are free to the public. Hampton Beach also has a variety of tourist attractions from the Hampton Historical Society and charitable gaming events to beachside cafes, pubs and entertainment establishments.

6. The Cog Railway of Mount Washington in Bretton Woods offers visitors a chance to get aboard a diesel-powered locomotive to travel to the top of the highest point in the Northeast. The ride provides breathtaking views of the White Mountains as the train slowly moves at three miles per hour up the passageway. Beautiful trees and lush forests accompany passengers during the trip up and down the mountain.

7. For a family vacation or staycation along with a pleasant view of New Hampshire, a drive along the Kancamagus Highway passes through some 34 miles of pure nature. A winding roadway takes motorists and passengers through the mountains and above the Swift River.
