But she soon comes to realize there may be more truth to the monster than she thought. This suspenseful film keeps the audience on its toes as they follow a teenage girl haunted by nightmarish visions and the sense someone is following her after a strange sexual encounter. Rotten Tomatoes rated this film at 96 percent stating the originality and terrifying aspects work to scare the viewer on multiple levels, as it depicts common fears and paranoia as well as bloody scenes.

5. “Pan’s Labyrinth” (2015)
Described as an “Alice in Wonderland” for adults, this film blends horror of both reality and fantasy to tell the tale of a girl who wishes to escape her dark life.
