The true test of an adventure character can be told by how often the story gets retold. Here are four examples of modern adventure characters that fit that criteria.

Indiana Jones

Harrison Ford has played so many great roles over his career. None, however, have the charisma and mass appeal that Indiana Jones possesses. The character is even part of the Smithsonian Institute. The famous museum reports having three iconic pieces of his wardrobe in its collection: his jacket, fedora, and bullwhip.

Luke Skywalker

The next adventure character that makes the list is Luke Skywalker. “Star Wars IV: A New Hope,” was one of the first movies to be called a “blockbuster,” according to Movies.com. The film introduced audiences to the extended Skywalker family, but Luke is clearly the most popular. Born at the end of prequel trilogy, Luke was the primary character in the fourth, fifth and sixth films in the series. Luke Skywalker will be included in the fifth Star Wars movie, which will be released later this year.

James Bond

With over 20 films already and showing no signs of stopping, James Bond is one adventure character that is known to generations. The movies have spanned over 50 years, and according to Time, have earned well over $5 billion worldwide. With today’s blockbusters now having the potential to earn over $1 billion each, the upcoming movie “SPECTRE” is likely to add quite a bit to that figure.

Robin Hood

The 1938 film called, “The Adventures of Robin Hood” is a true classic. While not the first time that the character was brought to the big screen, it was one of the best known. Since then, Robin Hood has been in no less than 30 animated and live action films.

Some of the films, such as the 1973 animated version featuring forest animals as the characters, have been aimed at children. One of the most unusual Robin Hood stories is the 1976 film, “Robin and Marian,” which tells the story of a middle-aged Robin, played by Sean Connery, still fighting against the Sherriff of Nottingham, played by talented actor Robert Shaw.
