Republicans are eagerly watching as the pool of potential presidential candidates for 2016 expands. One name that continues to surface among the short list of GOP hopefuls is Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

Here are eight fun facts about the personal life of possible 2016 presidential candidate Mike Pence:

Pence is a lifelong Hoosier who grew up in in Columbus, Indiana, with his three brothers and two sisters. His middle name is Richard, which is for his maternal grandfather, a Chicago bus driver who immigrated to the United States, landing at Ellis Island, from Ireland.

2. Pence graduated from Hanover College in 1981 and went on to earn his law degree from Indiana University School of Law in 1986.

3. Pence has been married to his wife Karen since 1985. They have three children: Michael, Charlotte, and Audrey, and they live in Columbus. Karen is an elementary school art teacher and the honorary chairwoman of the Art Therapy Initiative at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.

4. In 1991, Pence became president of the Indiana Policy Review Foundation in Fort Wayne. The group conducts and circulates research on Indiana issues at the state and municipal levels.

5. In 1993, Pence started a business to produce a statewide radio show. In 1994, “The Mike Pence Show” was syndicated across the state and later aired on 18 radio stations statewide through September 1999. He also hosted a Sunday morning television show in Indianapolis from 1995 until 1999.

Pence is an animal lover. He and Karen have a beagle named Maverick and two cats named Pickle and Oreo.

7. His favorite snack is Apple Smiles, a recipe he and Karen would make for their kids when they were younger. 

8. His favorite colors are blue and gold.
