Despite losing that initial nod, she was nominated again in the same category in 1980, taking home the prize for her role as Joanna Kramer in 1980's "Kramer vs. Kramer." Three years later, she was nominated for her first Best Actress award, this time for her role as Sophie Zawistowski in 1982's "Sophie's Choice." In all, Streep earned three Oscars (she also won for her role as Great Britain Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 2011's "The Iron Lady") and has been nominated 19 times, including 15 times for Best Actress.

Golden Globe Awards
As beloved as Streep is by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, she may be loved even more by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The organization that runs the Golden Globes has nominated Streep 29 times and she's won eight awards.
