Since the start of Christianity, followers of the faith have believed that Jesus is coming soon. They watch the clouds for the “trumpet of God” and a “shout” which will announce the return of Jesus as described in 1 Thessalonians. What many Christians also call the “rapture” is described in the same passage. It says (starting in verse 16), “…the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.” This scene is one of the great hopes for many Christians around the world. They point to current events as evidence that Jesus is coming soon.

Both mainline and splinter groups share the passion to preach this gospel. Here are six examples:

ALERT: When Do You Think Christ Is Returning? Vote Now

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day: The Mormon Church believes that the prophet Joseph Smith, founder of their faith, was the prophet who fulfilled many of the Biblical signs that need to happen before Jesus comes. A 1978 outline of this belief by Elder Legrand Richards of the Council of the Twelve provides their scriptural basis for this belief. Many of the scriptures used are from the book of Malachi.

Lamb & Lion Ministries:
While this group does not proclaim a date for the return of Jesus, they have proclaimed, since 1980, that Jesus is coming soon. The group hosts a weekly television broadcast called Christ in Prophecy that points to recent news events as signs of the end times. The group is headquartered in a rural area of Texas about 35 miles north of Dallas, but does outreach across the country and around the world.

Billy Graham Evangelistic Association: While the organization officially says only God knows when Jesus is coming again, Franklin Graham produced a half-hour special on the second coming in 2011, and Billy Graham has likened the current state of morality in America to the Biblical Sodom and Gomorrah.

Presents of God Ministry: The group points to current events including support for the legalization of marijuana, sexual permissiveness, earthquakes, viruses, and violent crimes as all signs that Jesus is coming soon.

Seventh Day Adventist: This protestant denomination focuses on preaching about the imminent return of Jesus Christ. It has a current world membership of about 18 million people. They believe that they are the remnant of God referred to in Revelation 14 called out to announce the arrival of the judgment hour and herald the approach of the second coming.

Endtimez Ministry: This group believes we are definitely living in what the Bible calls the “time of the End, when Jesus will return.” Among other signs of the times, they believe the last three presidents, Clinton, Bush, and Obama are all manifestations of the “beast” mentioned in the biblical book of Revelation.
