New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Website - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website is a great first stop resource chock full of information about hunting seasons, regulations, hunter and trapper education, options for youth less than age 16, locations for public hunting, and more. The site provides information about obtaining a hunting license as well as the option to apply online. There are pages of information devoted to hunting for particular animals and a hunting and trapping photo gallery. Hunters can access the latest harvest reports by species, and report their own harvest.

Developed by the Department of Environmental Conservation and ParksByNature Network, this free smart phone app offers outdoor enthusiasts of all levels current information on hunting, fishing, and wildlife observation. This app can help users locate hunting and other sites using GPS technology, learn about target species and access information on regulations and licensing. Additional features include weather alerts, advisories, compass, current calendar and social networking options. The New York Fishing, Hunting & Wildlife App can be downloaded from Google Play Store, Apple App Store, or PocketRanger.com.

  4. HUNT - Another smart phone app for hunting in New York is called HUNT, offered by Hunt onXmaps for a $29.99 membership fee, as of 2015. This app provides GPS-generated maps showing public and private land ownership by state, giving hunters confidence that they are in the right place. Coverage varies by county depending on what information is available, and some counties in New York are not fully covered by this app. The HUNT app can be used for other states besides New York as well. There is also a Garmin GPS version available for $99.99.
