Almost every profession and hobby benefits from new technology in an age where people can work and play from anywhere, thanks to mobile applications. It is no surprise to learn that those who enjoy hunting in Kansas can make their trips a little easier by utilizing a wide variety of apps.

From GPS solutions to detailed maps and tools, these apps enhance enjoyment of the sport. Here are several of the more useful applications of technology for hunters:

1. Complete Online Map of Fall Walk-in Hunting Access
Knowing where you are permitted to hunt is very important and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism provides a fully searchable Web map of the entire country's location that offer walk-in hunting access (WIHA). Hunters should note that web access is necessary and it is always advisable to confirm map accuracy by contacting the location directly.

2. ArcGIS App for Smartphones and Tablets
This app brings all the WIHA data to your portable device, but requires a data connection. Users should also note that use of GPS will drain the battery much faster. Once the app is installed, simply select the "2014 Kansas Fall Walk-In Hunting Access (WIHA)" map.

3. Printed Maps in PDF
To avoid the problems associated with loss of smartphone signal, many hunters simply download copies of the printed maps, as these are still accessible without cellphone coverage, given that they are stored locally on the device.

4. Hunt Predictor
Predict the movement of deer, turkey and waterfowl and analyze the best time of the day to catch your favorite game. The Hunt Predictor, along with a companion Fish Predictor, is available for both iOS and Android devices and is available from Buoy76.

6. Trimble GPS Hunt
Designed for hunters, the Trimble GPS Hunt app put out by Trimble Outdoors operated in remote areas and does not require a data or cellular signal. It includes detailed outdoor maps, camera features and backtrack home. Weather forecasts, ballistics information and trip stats complete this solution.

Improve your archery skills with the Archery Pal app for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch devices. This app calculates arrow speed, kinetic energy and tracks your accuracy in time. The data gathered can also detect if your arrows are correctly balanced.
