By    |   Thursday, 21 May 2015 06:08 AM

Outdoor Alabama is the ultimate resource for hunting in Alabama, with information about mobile apps and plenty of other online resources courtesy of the Alabama Department of Conservation & Natural Resources. Hunters being armed with not only hunting equipment but also knowledge and online tools has helped reduce the number of hunting accidents as well, currently at less than 12 injuries per season according to Al.com’s Michael C. Bolton.

ALERT: Should Obama Have More Control Over Guns? Vote Now

Here are three resources to help you get the most out of hunting in Alabama:

1. Official Outdoor Alabama Fish & Wildlife Guide

This app was created through a collaboration between ParksByNature Network and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. It was first released in 2014 and promises “you will be able to locate Alabama’s fishing and wilderness sites and gain immediate access to on-the-spot species profiles, rules and regulations, and important permits and licensing details.” The app also includes advanced GPS, a “Nearest Me” feature, and the ability to record tracks, distance and time. ParksByNature also emphasizes that the app is “designed to function in areas with little to no mobile reception; however, some of the features require mobile data reception in order to function properly.”

2. Outdoor Alabama Website

This website has everything you need to plan your hunting excursion in Alabama, including information about the mandatory hunter education required in order to obtain a hunting license. The site is very well organized and easy to use, with menu items including Hunting, Fishing, Boating, Parks, Wildlife, Programs, Research, Lands, Things to Do, and Licenses sections. You’ll also find a section about events related to the outdoors and the latest news about open seasons, trails, and maps so you have everything you need in one place.

3. The Official Alabama State Parks Guide

Alabama state parks often offer “hunter’s specials” to entice hunters to make a weekend of their hunting excursion and perhaps bring the family along, too. Many of these state parks are near Alabama Wildlife Management Areas, and for only about $17 more, hunters can add this privilege to their Alabama hunting license, opening up access to 758,000 acres of public land, according to David Green of Alabama Outdoor News. If you go this route, then the Official Alabama State Parks Guide will come in handy to help you plan your getaway with its “4-in-1 search by location, activities, category, and site name.” It also has the life-saving Alert feature built in.
