A low glycemic diet plan, also referred to as low glycemic index diet or low GI diet, focuses on the selection of foods that have a low glycemic index and help manage blood sugar levels in our body. The low glycemic diet plan was originally developed to control blood glucose level in diabetes patients.
The glycemic index or GI actually measures the increase in the blood sugar level when a certain carbohydrate food is digested and absorbed in our body. Foods can be ranked according to their glycemic index. Low glycemic foods or low glycemic recipes are the basis of many low glycemic diet plans. Low glycemic foods are absorbed slowly and release glucose steadily in the bloodstream so that there is no sudden rise in the level of blood glucose.
