So, how do you choose the firearm that’s best for you?

Fitting your hand
According to PersonalDefenseWorld.com, Glock has tailored its pistols to different hand sizes and finger lengths, a nod to gun owners’ need for a proper fit.

Glock’s Gen4 Series is a prime example. The first-generation Glock featured a smooth gripping surface. The second-generation Glocks improved on the handgun with checkering. The company added finger grooves on the front strap for third-generation Glocks. The Gen4 Glocks were tweaked in two key areas. According to Personal Defense World, “The dimension between the center of the trigger and the point on the backstrap where the web of the hand rests has been reduced.” The handgun has two backstrap inserts. One insert creates a feel that is similar to the same model of one of the earlier-generation Glocks. The other insert adapts the pistol to larger hands, duplicating the feel and trigger reach of a Glock 21 or 20.

Choosing the right cartridge
Chambering is a key consideration, according to GlockYourself.com and other handgun websites. The 9x19 is the chambering of choice around the world and with private gun owners in the United States. One reason is cost; it is the cheapest center-fire pistol ammunition in America, so handgun purchasers will buy and use it for target practice. Another reason is that new Glock owners appreciate its mild recoil.

Meeting the shooter’s needs
Variety is one reason why Glocks are so popular with the public, as detailed on the company's website. If a shooter’s primary need is concealed carry, the subcompact “Baby” Glock features a barrel that is just 3.43 inches, according to the Glock website. Handgun purchasers looking for a full-size service pistol can pick the Glock 17, G22, G31 or G37, ranging from 9x19 to .45 G.A.P. For maximum accuracy, a 4.5-pound trigger pull is a feature of the G17L, G34, G35 and G24. Shooters interested in target and recreational use can choose a “long-slide” Glock. Two examples are the G17L, which has a six-inch barrel and 9x19 slide but is not as plentiful on the market anymore, or the Glock 34, which boasts a 5.31-inch barrel and 9x19 slide, or Glock 35 in .40.
