When it comes to affordable and reliable options for a standard issue 9mm to issue to law enforcement, the Beretta M9 and 92 handgun seems to be a good option for country, state, and federal government agencies.

Only 5,000 copies of the original design were manufactured during the initial run in 1975-1976, but today variations of the 92 series handgun are used by nations around the world to arm their troops and enforce their laws. Many branches of the U.S. military forces carry the M9 version of the 92.

Priced at around $500, the civilian version in the 92 boasts many similar features and benefits as the M9. Open slide design, disassembly latch, rear sigh profile, no glare finish, light aluminum frame, reversible magazine release, and a unique ultra-safe design.

According to Paul Scarlata at PoliceMag.com, Beretta’s stout BU9 Nano Pistol provides a firm dose of stopping power for those looking to step it up a bit. Small and compact for excellent conceal-carry purposes, the Nano is chambered for both the S&W 9mm and .40 cartridges, and with the S&W .40 being the most popular police cartridge in the US, it is easy to see that Beretta is able to create the same level of preference in many of its products.

Sara Ahrens of Women’s Outdoor News concurs on the Px4. Arenas has a career in law enforcement, on patrol, and on SWAT.

“I don’t buy every gun for the purpose of carrying it concealed. Some guns I buy just because they are reliable and fun to shoot. For me, the PX4 falls into that category,” she said in her review on The Daily Caller.
