Benelli Reviews: What Gun Owners Say About Benelli

By    |   Tuesday, 05 May 2015 10:59 AM

Benelli has a reputation that puts the company near the forefront of weapons manufacturing, and professional gun experts continue to back that reputation with glowing reviews of Benelli products. Three Benelli weapons – the 828U, the ETHOS and the MR1 – receive a good amount of the positive reviews.

First, the 828U, also referred to by the company website as the "over/under."The Shooting Times reviewed the gun in January of this year and points out that the weapon is the first over/under ever to feature a shim system. In addition, the 828U possesses a number of additional features, including "impulse-driven ejectors for increased reliability, Benelli's Progressive Comfort System for recoil reduction and a removable trigger group. The 828U also sports Crio free-floating and ventilated barrels, a carbon-fiber rib and a fiber-optic sight."

Field & Stream also gave high reviews to the 828U, calling it, "One of the hottest guns at the 2015 SHOT Show media day." The article further compliments the 828U's "eye-catching design" and the weapon's durability.

Another popular Benelli product getting significant exposure during the past year is the ETHOS, ranked the fourth-best new shotgun in 2014 by Outdoor Life. Outdoor Life calls the gun "nimble and light, yet dampens recoil very well."

According to The Daily Caller, Benelli has also made a significant number of upgrades to the ETHOS from earlier models. It's easier to load, and the new bolt release "no longer requires a jeweler's fine motor skills."

Naturally, not all reviews of any product are five star for everyone. Benelli is no exception, particularly when discussing its MR1 semiautomatic rifle.

Guns.com tells gun enthusiasts that "there are actually two common complaints … Some have criticized the low-mounted sights and say it's fussy with magazines. The complaint about the sights is that they're too low, so co-witnessing proves difficult. You'll have to mount them really low because the MR1 was designed around the iron sights. And the picatinny rail is only five inches long – not long enough for some people."

Another review of the MR1 in RifleShooter magazine also notes some of the potential deficiencies with the weapons, including the rail, which the review mentions should feature a "folding, backup type rear sight on it instead of a sight that's screwed into the receiver."

The same review makes note of the trigger, of which the "overall feel … is shotgunny."

Benelli remains a leading manufacturer of firearms in the United States. Most reviews would seem to indicate that the positives of Benelli weapons outweigh the negatives by far. Judging from the results, it would seem as though the company is in no danger of its reputation being tarnished anytime soon.
