Gun Ranges in Minnesota: 6 Spots for Firearms and Pistol Practice

Minnesota ranks number 39 in a 2014 list of the best states for gun owners compiled by Guns and Ammo. The state's score of only 30 out of 50 is affected by its state constitution, which does not protect the right to keep and bear arms. Scores were compiled based on right to carry laws, restrictions on sporting rifles, National Firearms Act rights, the Castle Doctrine and a miscellaneous category.

Here are six spots for firearms and pistol practice in the state of Minnesota:

1. Firing Line: Located in Sauk Rapids, "Firing Line is the Saint Cloud Area's first state of the art 25 yard indoor range, retail, and training facility." In addition to their indoor shooting range, they offer a "try before you buy" option before purchasing a firearm.

"Awesome range and great location. Range masters are fantastic! Knowledgeable and courteous staff. If they don't have it, they can order it!" writes a reviewer on Yelp.

2. Metro Gun Club: Located in Blaine, this family orientated shooting range provides a 50-foot pistol and rifle range, sporting clays courses, wobble trap and skeet fields and a 75-foot duck tower. Shooters under the age of 18 are not allowed to shoot handguns and ages 12-15 years can only shoot .22 rifles with adult supervision.

"Went to MGC for Gun Safety Training with my son and loved it! The trainers take their job very seriously but also have a sense of fun. Very interesting, learned a lot! People there are very helpful and friendly. Awesome duck and shooting ranges," writes a reviewer on Google.

3. Inrange LLC: Located in Monticello, this small gun range has four shooting lanes equipped with an automated retrieval system. The range features climate control with "hospital grade air flow." Firearm instruction is taught by NRA certified experts and includes beginner to advanced classes.

"Super fun. Friendly staff. Great target retrieval system. Leagues look fun and challenging. Laid back but very safe environment to shoot. Will be going back soon for sure," writes a reviewer on Google.

4. Bill's Gun Shop and Range: Between three locations in Robbinsdale, Circle Pines and Hudson, this "one-stop shop for firearms and accessories" has 62 indoor shooting lanes. All three locations have received a 5-star rating by the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

5. Target Sports Minnesota: Located in Rogers, this indoor gun range provides 10 shooting stalls with a 25-yard range and state of the art ventilation. Firearms are available to rent and instruction includes basic handgun, youth safety, Minnesota carry and "Refuse to be a Victim."

"We recently visited there and were very impressed with the personnel and range itself … We had to wait about 40 minutes but enjoyed talking to the owner and the very knowledgeable head guy that was at the front desk," writes a reviewer on Yelp.

6. Tactical Advantage: Located in Waite Park, this gun range offers "range gun rental, retail sales, limited gunsmith service and stellar training." Instruction includes basic handgun safety, permit to carry, "Decision shooting (Force on Force)," and NRA basic pistol.
