The British documentary, "The Great Global Warming Swindle" refutes claims that human activity is the cause of global warming. The public response to the film was mixed and for the most part reviews were heavily influenced by viewer's pre-existing positions on climate change. Many scientists, however, reacted to the documentary with criticism as to the qualifications of the "experts" that contributed to the film. These scientists also questioned the basic scientific premises producer Martin Durkin relied on to support the conclusions that global warming is not human-caused.

It has been reported that Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change member John T. Houghton had a critical reaction to "The Great Global Warming Swindle" and stated that the film was "a mixture of truth, half truth, and falsehood put together with the sole purpose of discrediting the science of global warming." Whether or not it was in response to that criticism, the film's website contains language that specifically targets the IPCC as being too quick to dismiss debate about global warming. When it comes to declaring a consensus on the science, they state, "This is too big an issue for us to rubber-stamp the declarations of a semipolitical body such as the IPCC."

Scientists from the British Antarctic Survey Natural Environment Research Council also questioned the merits of "The Great Global Warming Swindle" claiming that the film left viewers "confused" as to whether global warming is human-caused. In addition to stating that the data used in the film was flawed, the council took issue with the accusations that the science community is involved in a "swindle" about "the cause and significance of climate change."

The Commonwealth Science and Industrial Research Organization of Australia highlighted the reactions that two of their scientists had to the global warming documentary. According to CSIRO scientist Dr. Michael Raupach, the film "puts forth such a different view that it is difficult to begin a rational dialogue. Its contentions are that CO2 does not cause global warming, efforts to reduce CO2 emissions are misplaced and even 'anti-human', and scientists advocating emissions reductions are self-serving, fund-grabbing puppets of a neo-Marxist movement intent on overthrowing capitalism."

CSIRO scientist Dr. Penny Whetton stated, "This film not only says that the conventional view of climate change is wrong, it accuses those who disseminate that view of lying. Like many scientists who have worked in this area of research for more than a decade, I felt personally attacked. This accusation is very serious and requires supporting evidence, but there is not a skerrick given in the film."

Finally, Carl Wunsch, one of the scientists who was interviewed for "The Great Global Warming Swindle" later claimed his comments were taken out of context in the film. As reported in The Guardian, Wunsch criticized the film, saying that the documentary was "grossly distorted." He further stated that it was "as close to pure propaganda as anything since World War Two."
