Numerous online global warming petitions either support or refute human-made climate change. However, the Global Warming Petition Project is the most widely known petition that asserts global warming is not caused by human activity. With 31,487 qualified signatures, the petition does seem to have achieved one of its main goals: to refute claims that there is a 97 percent scientific consensus on the science of global warming.

ALERT: Is Global Warming a Hoax? Vote Now

The Global Warming Petition Project can be considered the most influential organized petition that refutes the science of anthropogenic global warming. On the other side of the climate change debate there is an abundance of petitions to "stop climate change" but rather than touting qualified signatures of those in the scientific community, they tend to have more of a grassroots activist flavor.

Below are some online climate change petitions that support the science of human-caused global warming:

The Stop Global Warming Virtual March petition claims to have 1,460,865 supporters and the organization states, "The results are in and the reality of global warming is beyond dispute or debate." Described as a "non-political effort to declare that global warming is here now and it’s time to act," the petition requires the first and last name, email address, ZIP code, and state of signers and offers the opportunity to sign up for the SGW newsletter.

The Union of Concerned Scientists whose stated mission is to help "advance science-based solutions for a healthy, safe, and sustainable future," has a number of petitions related to "defending the climate." For example, a current petition asks supporters to help "Protect Rocky Mountain Forests Before It's Too Late." According to the site, "Heat and drought stress, bark beetle infestations, and wildfires — all increasing in intensity due to global warming — are causing widespread die-offs."

The organization, Change.org, has a running litany of petitions covering issues from immigrants' rights, women's rights, and economic justice to gay rights, animal welfare, and sustainable food. The site allows users to start their own petitions as well. Currently the site has several petitions that relate to global warming including, "Protect Polar Bears from Global Warming" which is sponsored by Defenders of Wildlife, and "Restore Global Warming — Plant Trees" sponsored by Community Health, Housing, and Social Education.

One Hundred Months
is an organization that has a countdown petition claiming people have "100 months to save our climate." The site, which claims to be solar powered, asks people to enter their email information to receive "monthly actions." Users are asked to share the site with friends and download an ad from the site to put up at "home, work, or school." According to the site, "When the clock stops ticking, we could be beyond our climate's tipping point, the point of no return."

While there are many online petition sites that support theories of human-caused global warming, for the most part these petitions have not gained the international attention that the Global Warming Petition Project has garnered.
