On the topic of global warming, NASA has never wavered from their stance that the Earth is undergoing a dramatic climate change and offers the data on their Global Climate Change website to back it up. ‘It had been known since 1960 that humans were increasing the amount of heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the atmosphere,” according to the agency’s website.

In a study conducted on the role of carbon dioxide in global warming, it found, “no reason to doubt that climate changes will result and no reason to believe that these changes will be negligible."

Currently, the space agency is conducting a program of what it terms as “breakthrough research on climate science,” which it claims enables the scientists to “advance global integrated Earth system science using space-based observations.”

They’ve determined that climate change has already created several observable effects, including glacial shrinkage, changed animal and plant behaviors, and quicker melting ice on lakes and rivers. They are also finding a greater loss of sea ice, rising sea levels, and an increase in heat waves.

NASA notes that scientists “have high confidence” that the Earth’s temperatures are on the rise, mainly due to human activities that produce greenhouse gasses. The agency points to findings made by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The IPCC, made up of more than 1,300 scientists from around the world, estimates there will be a temperature rise of 2.5 degrees to as much as 10 degrees Farenheit over the next century.

“Taken as a whole, the range of published evidence indicates that the net damage costs of climate change are likely to be significant and to increase over time,” the IPCC concluded.

NASA’s site offers readers a comprehensive look at their research, an interactive page that offers real time data on carbon dioxide levels, global temperatures, and arctic and land ice levels. They also offer exploratory resources and possible solutions.
