The case against climate change alarmism is even made on local levels when global warming deniers do what they can to fight federal regulations. They often have concerns about interference with local industries and economies.

ALERT: Is Global Warming a Hoax? Vote Now

• Kentucky State Rep. Jim Gooch, a Democrat from Providence, is proud of his status as a global warming critic. It even earned him a spot on the Village Voice’s “America’s Worst Politicians” list. He has been strongly opposed to federal environmental regulations that interfere with his state’s coal industry. He sponsored state legislation to encourage coal production and has called global warming a “hoax.” Gooch also suggested in the past that Kentucky consider seceding from the union because of EPA regulations on industries.

• Another Kentucky state senator, Republican Stan Lee, has said that the climate change movement just uses scare tactics in order to make the case that global warming is caused by humans. He maintains that “there hasn’t been global warming in 15 or 20 years, then they changed the name to climate change,” The Courier-Journal reported.

• Utah State Rep. Mike Noel has led legislation to stop the EPA from further regulations against industry because of climate change until there is a full investigation that can substantiate “the climate data conspiracy and global warming science.” Noel has called the global warming movement a conspiracy to control world population, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

• Saying that the Earth has gotten colder every year since the release of Al Gore’s climate change documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," Louisiana State Rep. Lenar Whitney attacked the scientists who support man-made climate change in a five-minute campaign video. She also called global warming the greatest deception “in the history of mankind” to qualify as one of the global warming deniers.

• Geri McCaleb, mayor of Grand Haven, Michigan, believes that any warmer trends in the temperature come from completely natural occurrences. However, she does work with area consultants and policymakers to prepare the city for the consequences of storms supposedly caused by climate change. She notes that “history will bear out who has the right answers” when it comes to approaches to climate change, Crain's Detroit Business reported.
