Girls With Guns: Popular All-Female Competitions

By    |   Tuesday, 21 Apr 2015 10:22 AM

Competitive shooting among girls with guns has become so popular in recent years that shooting organizations have eagerly begun incorporating all-female events at their matches. While co-ed matches are equally as fun and challenging, there is something to be said for shooting with other women.

The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) hosts events all over the country at various ranges on a regular, ongoing basis. While the majority of these are co-ed, there are IDPA ladies-only groups set up at the local club level in some areas.

The organization also works with women's shooting clubs such as A Girl and a Gun and The Well Armed Woman, encouraging women to familiarize themselves with IDPA by occasionally holding mock IDPA matches upon request.

Robert Ray, the operations manager at the International Defensive Pistol Association says, "Just about everybody that attends our events is enthusiastic about reaching out and encouraging women to join us."

Three-gun competitions are fast becoming one of the most popular competitive events all over the country. It's so popular among girls with guns that Brownell's recently held its first ever women's only 3-gun event called "3-Gun Lady" and has already scheduled a second and now has both East and West coast divisions.

Glock Sports Shooting Foundation (GSSF), the competitive shooting arm of the popular firearms manufacturer, holds matches on an ongoing basis throughout the country. Its female participants can elect to shoot in the Glock Girls side matches at these events.

Prizes are particularly plentiful and include cash and even numerous Glock pistols. Glock does a lot for the sport shooting community, particularly women, and they certainly reward their customers and competitive shooters by generously sponsoring and contributing to their events.
