By    |   Monday, 06 Apr 2015 09:53 AM

It's been said that target shooting is the new "bowling." Many ranges also dedicate a certain day each week to Ladies Day and there are now a whole host of new women's gun clubs popping up.

However, target shooting only goes so far, and after time, many girls with guns want to take things a step further by putting their shooting skills to use. Competitive shooting is a great way to do that.

For the beginning competitor, most gun ranges host fun, local shooting events such as bowling pin and low light matches. In a bowling pin match, pins will be set up in such a way that you only shoot at designated "foe" pins and not the "friend ones." This is usually distinguished by the color of the bowling pin or numbers.

In a low light match, you are literally shooting at your targets in very low, or almost no light, other than the target. These are usually very casual events and mostly shot by those that want to do more than basic shooting at their local range.

For those that would like to take it a step further, there are great competitive organizations that host events throughout the country that such as the International Defensive Pistol Association, United States Practical Action Shooting Association, Glock Sport Shooting Foundation and Three Gun Nation.

There are plenty of opportunities throughout the country for girls with guns who want to get involved in shooting competitively. Anyone with any skill level is always welcomed and encouraged to participate.
