“Bonnie and Clyde” (1967)

Though not Dunaway’s first film role, it was her breakout role. She played Bonnie in the movie about the infamous and notoriously violent bank robbers and their gang. She played opposite Warren Beatty in the 1967 film.

“The Thomas Crown Affair” (1968)

The very next year she landed her next big role as an insurance investigator alongside Steve McQueen who played a cunning bank executive attempting to pull off the perfect heist. She played the smaller role of the psychiatrist in the 1999 remake of the film.

“Chinatown” (1974)

Dunaway played Evelyn Mulwray in this Roman Polanski film. Jack Nicholson is the investigator Dunaway’s character hires when she suspects her husband of infidelity but the scandal quickly unravels into a web of deceit and murder.

“Three Days of the Condor” (1974)

Robert Redford co-starred with Dunaway in this 1974 movie where Dunaway’s Character, Kathy, is abducted by a CIA researcher on the run, according to Fandango. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Actress in a drama.

“Network” (1976)

According to Fandango, Dunaway won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her part as a TV executive in this 1976 drama about the dark side of media.

“Barfly” (1987)

Two hopeless drunks – Dunaway and Mickey Rourke – start a relationship in a bar and it’s all downhill from there in the 1987 movie. Dunaway was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Drama for her role. 

“Columbo”

Guest performances in this 90s TV show earned Dunaway an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a TV Series. She played Laura Stanton and according to biography.com it was one of her most acclaimed performances of the 90s.
