Top 5 Employers in Nevada: Which Companies Have the Most Jobs?

Late night parties, shimmering lights, Fortune 500 logistic companies – Nevada has it all. But someone has to work the jobs that keep these services flowing.

The Silver State’s five major companies serve as hiring powerhouses in the mountainous areas. And, while Nevada has more to offer than tourism, the multibillion-dollar gaming and tourism industries keep wallets filled and employees happy.

Here are five of the state’s top employers, according to Vegas Inc. in 2012:

1. MGM Resorts International

One of the world’s largest casino chains, MGM Resorts International owns several Las Vegas Strip hotels and resorts, including the Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, and The Mirage. It also owns and operates 15 properties and has made significant investments in three other corporations, the company website said.

2. Caesars Entertainment Corp.

Founded more than 75 years ago in Reno, Nevada, Caesars represents a historical presence on the Strip. It operates three of Las Vegas’ premiere resorts – Harrah’s, Caesars, and Horseshoe. The company also has an international presence. Caesars owns London Clubs International casinos.

Established: 1966

3. Station Casinos LLC

Representing one of the less heard of resort operators, Station Casinos still holds strong as the third largest employer. The company operates clubs, bowling alleys, restaurants and casinos. Its portfolio includes the Red Rock and Palace Station, the company website said.

4. Wynn Resorts

Wynn Resorts is the newcomer to the Strip. It operates Wynn Las Vegas and Encore. Through a majority stock purchase in Wynn Macau, the company also has a casino hotel resort property in the People’s Republic of China.

5. Boyd Gaming Corp.

While most casinos focused on rolling out the red carpet for rooms and amenities, Boyd Gaming felt entertainment was the answer, its website said. One of Nevada’s largest gaming companies, Boyd has a major presence in the U.S. It owns 22 casinos in Nevada, New Jersey, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
