Here are the top five employers in the Show Me State.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital

Located in St. Louis, Barnes-Jewish Hospital tops the list of employers in Missouri with about 9,000 employees. The largest hospital in Missouri, Barnes-Jewish has a medical staff totaling 1,800 people, with a vast support staff. Barnes-Jewish has been named one of America’s Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for 22 years.

St. John’s Hospital

More than 8,500 people are employed at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Part of the larger network of Mercy Hospitals in four neighboring states, St. John’s is part of the sixth largest Catholic healthcare system in the United States.

University of Missouri IT Division

As part of the University of Missouri, in Columbia, the IT division supports technology for teachers, students, researchers, and administrators. With a staff of 7,677, the IT division at the University of Missouri employs experts in adaptive computing, IT training, technology support, data warehouse and reporting, information security, and other key IT areas.

Cerner Corporation

Cerner Corporation, specializing in healthcare technology, rounds out our list of top employers in Missouri. The company has 7,000 employees at its Kansas City world headquarters. Cerner also has offices in Australia, Brazil, Malaysia, and other countries around the globe.

In early 2015, Cerner announced it had acquired Siemens Health Services, to bring Cerner’s research and development investments to more than $650 million. Cerner spent $1.3 billion on the acquisition. It was unclear if the acquisition would increase the number of employees at the company’s Kansas City headquarters.
