Benefits and Side Effects of Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics

By    |   Monday, 16 Nov 2015 06:34 PM

Developed by microbiologist Iichiroh Ohhira, Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics are an all-natural blend of prebiotics and probiotics that works to benefit the digestive system.

The product contains 12 strains of probiotics and the healthy bacteria’s food supply, called prebiotics, according to DrOhhiraProbiotics.com.

In particular, the supplements have lactic acid-producing bacteria called TH10, which is unique to the product. This strand is reportedly six times stronger than other bacteria, according to The Natural Pharmacist.

The basis of the blend emanates from a traditional Japanese fermentation process that takes three years.

Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics restore and promote the growth of healthy bacteria in the intestines, according to Tao of Herbs. Results from taking the probiotics include increases in energy, metabolism, antioxidants intake, mood, sleep, rate of repairs at the cellular level, joint function, and immunity.

Having a ratio of 85 percent healthy bacteria to 15 percent bad bacteria in the body is generally recommended. Four pounds of body weight is made of such bacteria, says All Health Trends.

DrOhhiraProbiotics.com also lists managing lactose intolerance, prevention of colon cancer, decreases in cholesterol, reduction of inflammation, better mineral intake, and less growth of harmful bacteria as benefits of the product.

This particular brand may be an option for people with allergies and special dietary needs. Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics are safe for vegans and also do not contain gluten, soy, dairy, or genetically modified organisms.

Before beginning to take probiotics, patients should speak with their doctor, especially those who are on immunosuppressant medications, as they may interact. The supplements, however, are typically safe for people of all ages, as well as pregnant women.

People who are taking antibiotics should consult a doctor about using probiotics, but in general should take the two at separate times, since probiotics promote growth of healthy bacteria, while antibiotics kill bacteria.

Occasional gas, bloating, or diarrhea may occur when first taking the probiotics, but it is not typical, according to the supplements’ website.

"Despite having a relatively low CFU count per pill (900 million CFU compared to 100 billion for some probiotics) ... many people swear by the efficacy of Dr. Ohhira’s probiotic," says Probiotics.org.
