Delaware is known as the First State. It was the first state to ratify the Constitution of the United States. While its history is interesting, family vacation or staycation in the small state can pack big fun for all ages.

Here are seven places to visit in Delaware:

1. See the Ocean at Cape Henlopen State Park: This beautiful state park has great swimming beaches for families on a staycationl. It also features a three-mile paved trail and a World War II observation tower that you and the kids can climb. The top boasts an excellent view of the coastline.

2. Enjoy the Delaware Museum of Natural History: This museum brings thrills for the whole family with dinosaur bones and a variety of species from around the globe. The museum owns more than a 100,000 bird specimens including the extinct passenger pigeon which is on display.

3. The Winterthur Museum of Decorative Arts: This museum houses decorative arts and while that may sound a bit intimidating, it can be an excellent staycation stop. The large garden is 60 acres. It is a perfect place to allow the kids to stretch their legs. It features and enchanted woods aimed specifically at pleasing children's love of all things magical.

4. Visit First State Heritage Park: In Dover, the kids can enjoy the first state history in this complex of facilities that includes the John Bell House, the Johnson Victrola Museum, and the Old State House all on the Dover Public Green. The proximity of all these sites in walking distance make it a great family vacation travel spot to learn about Delaware history.

5. Take an excursion train ride: The Wilmington & Western Railroad gives a great family vacation travel experience. Visitors can take a ride behind one of several historic locomotive engines. The railroad operates seasonally and for special events. So, check before you travel.

6. Go on the History Trail: Download a Delaware History Trail Passport for your family from the state's travel and tourism web-site. Keep track of the places you visit. When you finish your travels your family can receive a limited edition "Landmarks and Legacies" Delaware History Book.

7. Shop Tax-Free: The state of Delaware does not have sales tax. For family vacation or staycation fun you can take home with you, visit the state's Tanger Outlets in Rehoboth Beach.
