Teachers also have their views on the educational measures. Here are five quotes from teachers:

Vote Now: Do You Think Common Core Is Good for Schools?

1. Karyn Dickerson, North Carolina's Teacher of the Year 2013-2014, says, "This notion of increased rigor does not mean that we are dumbing down or creating a common education for all our students. Instead, it means that we are simply raising the floor, or the baseline for what they must achieve so that the ceiling can reach limitless heights," reports NC Policy Watch.

2. Retired teacher Barbara Landenberg told North Carolina lawmakers in an information session that she hoped they could fix the problems associated with Common Core. "Why are standards bad? I'll bet your doctor has standards. I’ll bet your architect and your lawyer have standards … please, don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Fix the Common Core — don't throw it out."

3. Darren Burris, a teacher at Boston Collegiate Charter School says, "To me, the Common Core represents an empowering opportunity for teachers to collaborate, exchange best practices and share differing curricula — because a common set of standards is not the same thing as a common curriculum."

4. Angela Maxey, principal of the Sallye B. Mathis Elementary School in Florida said, "I'm originally from another state. The biggest thing is, if I'm in the state of Florida, I also know that children in another state are also learning this information. So it's leveling the playing field and closing the achievement gap. No matter where you're at, no matter what socioeconomic level you're working on, no matter where you grew up ... this is what every child at first grade should know no matter what."

5. Jane Schmidt, 2014 Iowa State Teacher of the Year, was quoted in an interview in the Daily Nonpareil saying, "If you go to any college basketball game anywhere in the nation, the court is going to be the same width, the same length and the hoop is going to be the same height – and that’s all the Iowa Core outlines for us."
