Chuck Colson Quotes on Success: 8 Memorable Statements From Christian Evangelist

By    |   Friday, 15 May 2015 12:43 PM

As a politician and member President Nixon's administration, Chuck Colson earned the nickname "Hatchet man" due to his toughness in the political arena. When he converted to Christianity in 1973, prior to serving time in prison, Colson put all his energies into spreading the word of God.

His time in jail showed him the need to help prisoners and, upon his release, he founded the Prison Fellowship, which grew into one of the biggest prisoner support groups in the United States, with an aim to help prisoners to become successes after serving their time.

During his life, Colson offered up many memorable thoughts regarding success:

1. "It's one thing to assert that those who make the most money are will do whatever it takes to succeed, even if it means running over a few people in the process. But it's another thing entirely to equate financial gain with true success."

2. It is important how people measure a successful life, Colson noted, "Money is a faulty measuring stick for assessing a good life. Rather, a good life is one lived by those who follow what Christ says."

3. People cannot not be successful in life if they have the wrong mentality saying, "The entitlement mentality destroys self-respect, motivation, and civic duty."

4. Start a successful life by taking that first step, Colson advised later in the same piece. "Every long journey begins with a small step."

5. Success in life won't happen without following a strong code of ethics, Colson wrote in a National Review article, "Nothing less than a total restoration of ethics can save us."

6. Get joy from how you live, Colson advised one in a Christian Broadcast Network interview. "I live everyday to the fullest because I can live it through Christ and I know no matter what I do today, and it may just be in my prayer time, I'm going to do something to advance the Kingdom of God. Now does that make you fulfilled? You bet it does! And it gives you joy about living."

7. A Christian gets true power from God, wrote Colson in his book, "Loving God," not from Earthly gains. "But the Christian who breaks radically with the power of the world is far from powerless."

8. To be a success in life, people need to follow Christian beliefs, Colson wrote in his book, "How Shall We Live?" "Our major task in life is to discover what is true and to live in step with that truth."
