Christian tattoos are gaining popularity and the numbers of tattoo artists catering to people wanting to make a statement of faith on their flesh is growing.

Here are five religious symbols tattoo artists say they ink the most:

1. Crosses: Crosses are so popular as Christian tattoos that artist Matt Geiogamah of Salt & Light Tattoo in Chandler, Arizona advertises $30 crosses all day every day. His normal minimum is $300. In 2013, CBS5 reported he broke the Guinness record for tattooing the most people in a 24 hour period. He inked 821 people that day. Proceeds from the stunt went to help stop child trafficking.

2. Scripture verses: From Romans 8:18 "For I consider that our present sufferings nothing compared to the glory that will be revealed in us." To Isaiah 6:8 which includes "send me" according to Buzzfeed, a favorite scripture is often on the request list for potential Christian tattoos.

3. Anchors: The anchor has been a traditional Christian symbol for centuries. Those who want to point to scripture here might add Hebrews 6:19 "We have this hope as an anchor for the sour, firm and secure." The anchor can symbolize a faith that would not give up.

4. God's name in Greek or Hebrew: The chi-ro and other ancient symbols and languages spelling out the name of God or Jesus are popular ways for Christians to express their faith in a cryptic way. Tablet Magazine, which covers Jewish life notes that many non-Jews are drawn to Hebrew tattoos. That is mostly a "Christian phenomenon."

5. Catholic Tattoos: Angels, rosaries and crucifixes are all popular Catholic themed tattoos. According to The Catholic News Agency, Envoy Magazine reported tattoos are morally permissible "as long as they respect the dignity of the person."
