2. In an interview with CBN News, Jindal recalled the story of how he became Bobby. As a child he often watched “The Brady Bunch,” and felt an affinity toward the youngest Brady boy whose name was Bobby.

"So one day my mom was picking me up from school and the teacher said, 'Well, your son has got a new name.' And she said, 'What are you talking about?'" he said. "And apparently I just showed up one day without asking her for permission and told all my friends to call me Bobby. From that day on ... they did," said Jindal.

3. Jindal’s father was one of nine children. He was the only one to be educated beyond the fifth grade, and he encouraged his son to be a doctor, CBN said.

4. Jindal graduated with honors in public policy and biology from Brown University. Although he was accepted into both Harvard and Yale universities, he decided to attend Oxford University, where he earned a graduate degree as a Rhodes Scholar.

5. Jindal won the governorship of Louisiana in 2003. He is the first governor of eastern Indian descent in the United States.

6. He married Supriya in 1997, and they have three children: Selia, Shaan, and Slade. Their third child was born at home, and Jindal helped deliver the baby while being coached on the phone by a nurse.

7. When Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, Jindal and his family lived in Kenner, Louisiana. The storm forced them to leave their home.

8. Jindal was brought up in a home that practiced Hinduism, but converted to Catholicism. He describes a moment when he attended a religious production with a friend. It featured a film about Jesus that greatly moved him.

"He's up there dying because of my sins, because of what I've done, what I've failed to do," Jindal said. "How arrogant for me to do anything but get on my knees and to worship him," he told CBN News.
