Voters rightfully focus on a candidate’s political background and their stand on the issues when making decisions, but a politician’s personal life says a lot about them also. Below are eight facts about the personal life of Former Maryland Gov. Bob Ehrlich, a GOP presidential hopeful in 2016.

1. Ehrlich was born in Arbutus, Maryland, on Nov. 25, 1957. He has been married to his wife, Kendel (née Sibiski) since 1963. They have two sons, Drew and Joshua.

2. Ehrlich is the author of several books, including "America: Hope for Change" and "Turn This Car Around."

He is credited with being an actor in the long-running HBO show, "The Wire" and the documentary, "Our Story," in addition to appearances as himself on CNN's "Crossfire" and HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher.”

4. He has maintained a presence on Facebook since 2008 — fairly early days for many politicians on the social networking site. He regularly posts both personal and political items to his timeline.

5. Ehrlich began his legal career with the firm of Ober, Kaler, Grimes and Shriver when he graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law. He currently serves as senior counsel for the firm of King and Spalding.

6. Ehrlich is a devout Methodist and signed the Contract with America, which was written by Newt Gingrich and Richard Armey.

7. Ehrlich’s wife, Kendel, was also a lawyer interested in politics who met Erhlich when she was politicking outside her local polling place. Since she really didn’t want to marry a politician, she tried to break off the relationship, but he showed up at his house with a "Top 10 list of reasons why she should stay with Bob Ehrlich," including, "She is perfectly suited for politics."

8. One of Ehrlich's first jobs after returning to the private sector was campaigning for former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. He almost backed Mitt Romney in the 2008 presidential election but chose instead to help Giuliani, according to Red State.
