5 Lesser-Known Heroes of the Bible That Would Make a Good Hollywood Movie

The Bible has familiar stories many people have known since childhood. While Hollywood has made popular Bible movies depicting the life of Jesus and Old Testament heroes like Noah or Moses, there are several other stories that would make a good Hollywood movie.

Here are five lesser-known heroes of the Bible that would make a good movie:

1. King David: This Bible hero has everything for a bio-epic that Hollywood could possibly want. He has humble beginnings as a farmer/poet. He fiercely defends his flock and is able to summon up the courage to take on the giant Goliath and win. He is the little guy destined to become king who fights through betrayal and doubt, before coming out on top and then colossally falling into the grip of power. This "man after God's own heart" becomes a seducer and a killer. For the right movie maker, it would be perfect. Perhaps someone has already thought that same thing though, because according to Variety the movie is already in the works.

2. Nicademus:
Nicademus was a member of the group that wanted to kill Jesus. He was perhaps the only fully educated person who connected Jewish scriptures to this teacher from Galilee. This non-follower of Jesus seems to be the only one who really understands what the teacher is saying. It was during a secret meeting with Nicademus that Jesus uttered the verse that has become the most widely quoted Bible scripture - John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever should believe in Him should not perish but have eternal life."

3. Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist: This is the woman who Mary ran to when she found out she was going to become the mother of the son of God. Elizabeth, who had her own miraculous pregnancy and difficult son-with-a-destiny to rear, was pivotal in encouraging Mary and building the character of the man chosen to pave the way for Jesus. Her story in the Bible is short and may need considerable artistic license, but it could make for an interesting Bible movie that would have the familiarity of other Bible narratives.

4. Abraham: While Moses and his deliverance of the Israelites from Egypt gets much attention, Hollywood has paid little attention to this Bible hero who had the original faith to follow God's call. He was the man God promised to bring descendants that number the stars, but who failed to be able to have a son of his own until his old age. There is struggle, disappointment; family challenges (Nephew Lot who turns to the dark side) and deliverance.

5. Eve: How about Eve? This first-woman bore at least three sons. She is the original mother of all people and the person blamed for the downfall of man. Her relationship with God, Satan, her sons (one who is murdered and the other banished) contains the kind of Hollywood study of the human condition that seems to draw filmmakers to Bible movies.
