Beth Moore Quotes on Women: 10 Memorable Statements from the Christian Evangelist

Men show up from time to time at a Beth Moore speaking event, but it’s generally a by-women, for-women kind of audience. Here are 10 memorable things the Christian evangelist has had to say on the subject:

SPECIAL: Prayer Changes Your Brain in 4 Amazing Ways

1. On elevating women in their churches, in a Living Proof Ministries blog post about being called a “false teacher” by a 22-year-old woman on Twitter: “My calling is discipleship and my focus is women. I want women plugged into churches. I want them continually sitting under pastors, shepherds, and teachers.”

2. Talking with the Houston Chronicle about her book, “So Long, Insecurity: You’ve Been A Bad Friend To Us,” she emphasizes women’s need to feel secure: “Insecurity has been my lifelong thing. I couldn't have written this at 35 or even 40. I'm not an expert, but I work with women all the time. This is the biggest, most monumental issue we have as a gender now.”

3. In the same interview, she addresses women’s reality vs. media images: “Women compare themselves to (media images) that could not be a more distorted picture of reality. We've come to a place where to be valuable is to be sensual. Eight- and 9-year-old girls are being trained on this message. They have got to see examples of secure women in front of them. It's not what we say to them, it's what they see in us.”

4. It doesn’t help if the man in the relationship is also insecure, she tells the Chronicle: “I hope we have a whole lot of healthy men out there impacting their wives and daughters with a sense of value and dignity. They can have a huge impact. It takes a secure man to breed that sense of security in his family.”

5. Material things and looking good don’t help, she cautions: “I ask women to check the feelings they have about themselves before they do something. If you're doing it out of a sense of desperation and need, don't do it.”

6. In the "Insecurity" book itself, she says: “These are perilous days to be a woman, but to be sure, they’re the only days we have and they’re passing quickly.”

7. Women can’t fight the battle alone, though, she writes: “And after a quarter of a century surrounded by girls ranging all the way from kindergarteners to those resting on pale pink liners inside caskets, I’ve come to this loving conclusion: we need help. I need help. Something more than what we’re getting.”

8. It starts with women needing to think better of themselves: “Something’s wrong with us for us to value ourselves so little. Our culture has thrown us under the bus. We have a fissure down the spine of our souls, and boy, does it need fixing.”

9. And staying quiet about it doesn’t help either, she writes in a Valentine’s Day Living Proof Ministries blog post about what she does and doesn’t believe: “I do not believe in staying silent in a culture that says girls are as valuable as they are desirable.”

10: The State Journal Register quotes promotional material handed out for a Beth Moore Living Proof event in 2009 in Springfield, Illinois: “My passion is serving Christ through serving women.”
